Senator Oluremi Tinubu received the National Taskforce on Cervical Cancer Elimination, ably led by the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako.
The meeting was not only timely but deeply aligned with the global commemoration of World Health Day 2025, themed “Healthy Beginnings; Hopeful Future.
” To further bolster this national effort, Oluremi was honored to donate One Billion Naira on behalf of the Initiative to the National Cancer Fund in support of the ongoing fight against Cervical Cancer in Nigeria. She believe that no matter a nation’s wealth, if its people are sick, that nation remains poor.
She said, I am especially encouraged by the strides the Ministry has made, having immunised 12 million girls aged 9 to 13 within just nine months of introducing the HPV vaccine into the national routine immunisation program. With continued efforts and political will, I am confident we can meet the 8 by 8 target and eliminate Cervical Cancer by 2030.
Oluremi was also touched by the kind words and recognition from former Health Minister Prof. Isaac Adewole and the Country Representative of WHO, Dr. Walter Mulombo, who urged me to lead this noble campaign through the 24 states it will cover over the next two years.
As I received the WHO souvenirs presented to he, she felt deeply grateful and even more determined to keep championing the health and wellbeing of our women and children—because indeed, a healthy nation is a wealthy nation.
